Some things you just have to try.

There have been three times in my life that I have successfully bought a cd without ever hearing a note from the artist. Two of the cd’s, while I love them, are irrelevant to my story.
To begin this story I should mention that I am a media junkie if I am anywhere near cd’s, dvd’s, or books I have to go and look at them even if I can’t afford them I have to look at them. The cd I am talking about was bought at target. I went there one day and sitting in the soundtrack section was a cd with what looked like two teenagers making out. While that normally wouldn’t be a giant selling point for me, this one for some reason caught my attention and wouldn’t let go. At first I thought that it was an interesting looking cd but I couldn’t afford it at the time and I had no idea about the music so I passed on buying it. I saw the cd again many times and every time I would think that I should really look it up because I really thought it looked interesting and it happened to be for a broadway show, which I am generally very interested in. After several months I finally had a bit of extra money and nothing else I wanted to buy so I bought this cd.
Let me be clear here. This was not an impulse buy. I was not at the store and just grabbed it. I had the money and with intention I went out and bought it. This cd (I know this unveil is cheesy but I can’t think of a better way to do it.) was the soundtrack for Spring Awakening.
I took the cd home and as I do with all of my cd’s these days the first thing I did was put it in my computer and load it onto iTunes. For some reason, with this cd I didn’t initially listen to it all the way through or even in order. The first song I listened to was “The Bitch of Living” I think maybe because I liked the title, swear words always jump out at me for some reason. Anyway I loved the song and moved on to, of course, “Totally Fucked”. I don’t remember what all else I listened to after that but I do know that I had a new love. I spent a lot of time looking up everything I could find on the internet about this show. I wanted to see it so bad and the more that I looked into it the more I couldn’t wait to be able to see it. I finally found a bootleg version and watched that over and over. I won’t say where I got this copy because A. I can’t remember and B. I’m not really supposed to, some people are of the mind that things like this will make people less likely to buy tickets or to buy the cd’s. That is a discussion for a different post. All I can say in this case is that, seeing the bootleg, sealed the deal. I would see this show live, I had to.
I could spend this post telling what the show is about and giving everyone a complete synopsis, however I think that would be a little pointless. That information is available on the internet and crazy simple to look up but I will give the link (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spring_Awakening)to the Wikipedia page at least today when I looked at it, it looked pretty accurate but just know that it has a ton of spoilers so if you don’t want to know let me give a super brief overview of the general idea of the show: It is a musical about teenagers coming of age and discovering the world in 1800’s Germany. There is awesome music and an awesome story and it all is really modern except for the fact that it is set in the nineteenth century. Trust me that description does not even begin to do the show justice but it really is a great show and if nothing else check out some of the songs on youtube it will be worth your while.
Next month Spring Awakening will be in Detroit. This is my opportunity to finally see it live. In fact after Detroit I believe that the tour only has two more stops in Florida then the whole thing is gone on hiatus for who knows how long.
I have to leave now but seriously look up Spring Awakening you will not regret it. I am going to leave some links in case you want to see the show in Detroit or just want to know more.
